During a sit-down interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, former President Trump hinted at the timing of his announcement for his 2024 vice presidential pick. The GOP frontrunner’s campaign has recently escalated the vice presidential hunt by dispatching vetting paperwork to multiple potential candidates.
Sources revealed that North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Senators Marco Rubio of Florida and JD Vance of Ohio are among those who have received vetting paperwork. Other figures reportedly under consideration include Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Tim Scott of South Carolina, as well as Representatives Byron Donalds of Florida and Elise Stefanik of New York, along with retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
“I think I’ll announce who that person’s going to be during the convention,” Trump told Hannity, noting that such timing is customary and would make for an “interesting period of time.”
Trump underscored the significance of the decision, praising some potential contenders for their communication skills in addressing the country’s challenges and opportunities. He emphasized the critical state of affairs in the nation, decrying what he perceives as a corrupt political system and emphasizing the urgency of strengthening electoral processes and national borders.
Acknowledging the international ramifications of leadership respect, Trump warned of the grave dangers facing America if its president is not held in high regard by other nations.
The timing of Trump’s potential announcement coincides with his expected appearance at a sentencing hearing in New York, scheduled for mid-July, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. It’s worth noting that Trump announced his selection of then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate via Twitter during the 2016 campaign.
